5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants(diakonos) through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. 1 Corinthians 3:5
Paul is reminding the church that St Paul himself and Apollos are just servants of the Lord. Servants! What does a servant do…? He serves them, he is not better than them. Paul emphasizes that as the Lord Jesus gave opportunity to each one Apollos, Paul whoever.
5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. 1 Corinthians 3:5
‘As the Lord gave opportunity’ St Paul again explains that he and Apollos are only servants.
We can learn from this. Don’t put your leaders on a pedestal because they are not gods but give them respect. It also says that ‘It is the Lord who gave’. It is the Lord who gives gifts. I think this is important to think about before getting to chapter 12 which is still a long way away. It is enough to believe that it s the Lord who gives gifts… Being given a gift might sound nice but if you look at the lives of the Apostles and how they ended, you wouldn’t be in such a rush to get these gifts… Let us not forget and learn from St Pauls humility… Humility is important in leadership.
Think about Moses;
NASB
(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.)
Numbers 12:23!!! NASB
