1 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 6 part 2

Verse 6

6  Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 1 Corinthians 5:6 NASB

I think we could do with a professional baker now as he uses the leaven motif.    Before we look at this verse it is important to realize that leaven and unleavened have very important meanings in the Bible.

Deuteronomy 16:3 ESV

You shall eat no leavened bread with it. Seven days you shall eat it with unleavened bread, the bread of affliction—for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste—that all the days of your life you may remember the day when you came out of the land of Egypt.

Unleavened bread is linked to the Passover with a great deliverance from God.   God didn’t command the Israelites to eat leavened bread but unleavened bread.  The Corinthians would have known about the Passover and about Jesus being the Passover Lamb.   Basically, Paul is saying to them to clean out of the church anything that is unholy, this includes arrogant attitudes.
