Verse 7

⁷ Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. 1 Corinthians 5:7 NASB

The lamb that was chosen for sacrifice was not to have any blemishes.  So, it is with the leaven.  They have put the old life away or the old leaven and are now walking the path of new life new leaven and the rational for this is the second part of the verse: 

For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. 1 Corinthians 5:7 NASB
