Now we move on to the final section of 1 Corinthians chapter 5 verses 9 – 13
This section is very important for moral issues and the church. The church is supposed to sort problems out within the church. The church leaders at Corinth failed to do this… Corinth was not the easiest place to follow Christ with high moral standards. I suppose a large group of the believers may have been Jewish and Gentile. If it was more Jewish, then there would have been a certain moral standard… From what we can see, this moral issue shows a laxity of moral issues. There certainly were many nationalities at Corinth and a large Greek speaking community. It was a Roman colony and many Romans probably retired there. Even Erastus was not a poor citizen as he was the towns treasurer!
23Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus, greet you.
Verse 9
Anyhow the Corinthians must have been a little bit mixed up on moral issues as Paul had to clarify what he meant by verse 9
9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; NASB
