Sanctification 1 Corinthians 7,14-16

Marriage and Sanctification

In the next section Paul explains why marriage partners stay married;

14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. 15 Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? 1 Corinthians 7:14-16 NASB

The basic premise is that through the believing marriage partner, the other is sanctified so that the children are ‘clean’ in the ceremonial sense in God’s presence.  Then Paul touches on spiritual spouse love.  Obviously the believing partner would like to see their partner become believing, but this is not guaranteed, they also have their own mind and they technically are not in the church.
