Verse 23

²³ I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it. 1 Corinthians 9:23

He does everything for the gospel so that he will be a fellow pop partaker of it. this is setting things up for the next verse on sport. Just remember a few miles away was a large Olympic type games that people could go to spectate at.
